According to grinding method , ball mill can be divided into dry grinding and wet grinding. The application range of wet grinding is wide. Most minerals can be wet grinding. The application range of dry grinding is smaller, but some materials can only use dry grinding.

Dry ball mill principle

The structure of dry ball mill is much more complicated than that of wet ball mill. It must be equipped with a draft device, a dust exhaust pipe and a dust collector, which is determined by its working principle. The dry ball mill requires that the material in the mill must be dry and no water or other liquid. The material is ground in the mill by the grinding media,and then being carried by the wind or air.

Wet ball mill principle

The structure of the wet ball mill is simple, no need to add too many auxiliary accessories, it needs to add water or absolute ethanol during the grinding process. During the grinding process, the bulk material will crack by the grinding medium, and the crack will gradually increase. Deepening, the final material is separated from the crack to achieve the effect of grinding the material.

The material is mixed with the grinding medium and collides with each other. If it is dry grinding, because there is no material blocking in the crack, it is very likely that the crack will be squeezed smaller during the extrusion process. The grinding efficiency is low and the material separation speed is slow; if it is wet grinding, when small cracks appear in the large mineral, the fluidity of the water will force the water into the crack, causing a barrier effect, and then impacting through the grinding medium. And extrusion, it will gradually increase the crack, and finally the bulk material is crushed, so the efficiency of wet grinding is high. In addition to high grinding efficiency, the wet type has the characteristics of low noise, uniform grinding particle size and less pollution to the working environment. The advantage of the dry type grinding is that the discharging speed is fast and smooth, the cylinder does not need to be cooled, and the service life is long.
